SAT Exam Pattern & Sections
Reading & Writing
Short passages testing comprehension, vocabulary in context, grammar and the expression of ideas.
Maths
Algebra, advanced maths, problem-solving and data analysis — a calculator is permitted throughout.
SAT Scoring System & How It Is Calculated
The digital SAT is scored from 400 to 1600, combining two sections — Reading & Writing and Maths — each scored from 200 to 800.
| Score | Level | What It Means |
|---|---|---|
| 1450 – 1600 | Excellent | Top percentile — competitive for the most selective universities. |
| 1300 – 1449 | Very Good | Strong score accepted by many top-ranked universities. |
| 1200 – 1299 | Good | Meets the requirement of many good universities. |
| 1050 – 1199 | Average | Accepted by a wide range of universities; aim higher for scholarships. |
| < 1050 | Developing | Sufficient for some universities — Vibedu helps you improve. |
Your total SAT score (400–1600) is the sum of the two section scores: Reading & Writing (200–800) and Maths (200–800). The digital test is adaptive at the module level — your performance in the first module determines the difficulty of the second. There is no penalty for wrong answers, so it pays to attempt every question.
SAT Exam Dates, Registration & Fees
The SAT is held throughout the year, so you can choose a date that fits your application timeline. Registration is done online through the official test provider, and seats fill quickly in peak intake months — so book early. The SAT fee in India is approximately $110 + regional fee (approx.).
Vibedu helps you pick the best test date, register correctly, and prepare a study plan that works backward from your university deadlines — completely free.
